Using Related Resources and Add-On Resources

Related Resources

To create related resources go into the selected resource and under Profile / Related and add the resource you would like to create a relationship with. In this case, we are adding Desk 01 as a related resource to Computer Monitor 01. Once the relationship has been created Desk 01 will also show Computer Monitor 01 as a related resource on its resource page.

Now, in the user view, on the Computer Monitor 01 resource page, Desk 01 appears as a related resource and the same will happen when on the Desk 01 resource page.

Only Use With Related Resource

You can also set resources to only be used with another specific resource. Within the resource, under Reservations / General choose "Only Related" to answer the question "Can only be used with related resources?".

Now when booking Desk 01, the only resource that can be booked alongside Desk 01 is the related resource Computer Monitor 01.

Making a Resource Only Bookable By Itself

You can make a resource only bookable by itself by turning on the Can only be used with related resources option and then not relating it to any resources.  This will ensure that, when booked, no other resources can be added to that reservation or request.

Add-On Resource
An Add-on resource will only be shown as an add-on item to a reservation and cannot be booked on it's own.

Create a new resource and under General change Add-on Resource to "Is Add-On".

Now this item can only be booked as an Add-on, not on it's own.

Combining Related and Add-On Resource Settings
By making a component both related to a main piece of equipment and an add-on resource, then setting the add-on to only be usable with related resources, you can have it such that when booking a main piece of equipment (e.g. a Microscope) you can only book related add-ons (e.g. specific filters or optical pieces) with that resource.  This is a powerful way to guide users into the different types of resources to book and the contexts in which they are bookable.
